The New Orleans City Council Public Works Committee Thursday selected District B Councilman Jay Banks to serve as the council's representative on the New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board.

"Councilmember Banks will have full access to the in-house Council engineer to support him on technical matters," said Public Works Committee Chairman Joe Giarrusso. "With the S&WB, the public deserves both accountability and engineering expertise."

Banks recently served on the Sewerage & Water Board governance task force.

New Orleans voters last Saturday approved a ballot measure to give the city council a seat on the Sewerage & Water Board, with the idea that it will give the board some measure of voter accountability.
