Washington Parish has followed St. John Parish in issuing a COVID-19 curfew.

"Effective this date, April 1, 2020, and continuing thereafter until further notice, a curfew is in effect for all of Washington Parish between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m.," Sheriff Randy Seal said in a Facebook post today. "The curfew extends to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic."

He says the only exceptions are for first responders, essential workers and people seeking medical treatment.

Exempt from the curfew are:

  • Law enforcement
  • Emergency personnel
  • Persons traveling to and from their place of employment
  • Persons traveling to and from any medical facility

The announcement came just hours after a similar curfew issued in St. John Parish.
