A 52-year-old Northshore woman no longer has to walk six miles to her job at Walmart, thanks to the efforts of Slidell Police and a local car dealer owner.

It started with a Slidell Police Department Facebook post, detailing how Officer Brad Peck encountered Anita Singleton in her Walmart uniform at 5:30 one morning as she was walking to work. Expecting her to be on her way to the nearest Walmart, Peck was surprised to learn it was one much farther away.

"She told me when she can't get a ride (to work) she has to do what she has to do," the post read. "I learned that she is 52 years old and had as much energy as my two year old."

That caught the attention of local media, and then local car dealership owner Matt Bowers:

Today, Singleton got to pick her new vehicle.

"I am so deeply grateful," she said. "Than you all so very much. God bless you."
