Police converged on Poydras and Tchoupitoulas streets this morning after cops tried to pull over a car, but the driver fled and slammed into other vehicles.

"NOPD officers are investigating a hit-and-run vehicle crash at the location," Public Information Officer Aaron Looney said. "Officers were notified of a complaint call made by an individual claiming he was being followed by subjects."

He says when police responded, the driver of the car allegedly following the vehicle took off.

"A responding NOPD unit approached the suspect vehicle from the rear and activated its blue lights. At that time, the suspect vehicle attempted to flee the location."

Looney says that while the officer did not chase the suspect, the driver did take action to escape.

"The subject vehicle then reportedly crashed into several other vehicles before coming to a stop at the intersection of Poydras and Tchoupitoulas streets. Two unidentified black male subjects then exited the suspect vehicle and fled the scene."

One of the suspects threw a gun on the ground outside the Loews Hotel.

Both suspects got away.

"Investigation into this incident is ongoing, and additional charges are possible. Anyone with additional information is asked to call NOPD Eighth District detectives at 504-658-6080."
