Cooler air comes into the metro area beginning tonight

The weekend depends on Invest 96-L which could give us rain and some breezy conditions

A cold front has moved to the south, and that is giving us some fall weather which will stick around tonight through Friday.  The rain has also ended.

"Friday and Saturday could bring some potential impacts from a low pressure area in the Gulf of Mexico, but there is still uncertainty," said WWL-TV meteorologist Alexandra Cranford.  "It could bring breezier conditions, higher tides and perhaps up to an inch or so of rain, but the trend today has been for models to take it east of us along with most of the rain."

As of now the low pressure area in the Bay of Campeche is known as Invest 96-L.  The National Hurricane Center gives it a 30% chance of developing in 2 days and a 50% chance of developing in 5 days.  Development in this case would mean becoming a tropical depression which could bring winds of maybe 15-20 mph and gusts around 30 mph.  Should that happen it could be as early as Friday and last into Saturday.

Cranford says sustained winds like that may cause tides to run a bit higher than normal which could lead to some coastal flooding Friday and Saturday.  An upper low pressure area over Texas will nudge the low pressure area to the northeast, and it will depend on how far to the east it gets moved.

Again, models are keeping it farther east now compared to yesterday, and the heavier rain associated with it may stay east as well.

Things should get quieter by Sunday and then by Monday look for another cold front coming through and more rain.  It should be breezy too.  It could be the coolest weather we've seen this fall season.  a looks like a quieter day but another cold front is moving in on Monday with yet more rain and breezy conditions. That front looks like it'll bring the coolest weather we've seen yet this season and lasting a couple more days.
