Bourbon Street improvements steadily working downriver

The work to improve Bourbon Street moves to a new block starting today. Weather permitting, the city shuts downs the intersection of Bourbon and Dumaine streets to install a new water main and drain line.

French Quarter business league president Alex Fein says if the work holds to its recent pattern, it should go well.

"The first half of St. Peter went really quick," said Fein. "I haven't heard any problems or setbacks or complaints from anybody on the business side."

Fein says the work lately  has been uneventful -- just the way they like it: "There wasn't anything crazy and it seemed to do just fine."

He says business owners he has talked to are very happy with the finished product -- a new road surface, and fewer problems under the surface.

"For the most part, we're very, very pleased with what's been done."
