Mayor LaToya Cantrell appointed Jade Brown-Russell Acting Director of the New Orleans Sewerage & Water Board Thursday afternoon.

Brown-Russell will serve in a temporary capacity while the search and interview process continues for a permanent candidate.

"Jade Brown-Russell has my faith and confidence, and I believe she will provide the leadership and the steadiness needed as acting Executive Director," said Cantrell.

The S&WB previously recommended two candidates, Brown-Russell and Bruce Adams, to replace outgoing interim superintendent Marcie Edwards. Brown-Russell was previously the interim special counsel for the S&WB.

"Jade has done an excellent job helping the City to get our arms around the problems we face at the S&WB," Cantrell said. "I am grateful that she is going to step up and serve admirably."

Brown-Russell is an experienced corporate attorney and previously served as the interim leader of the French Market Corporation in 2016.

A nationwide search continues for a full time director to run the Sewerage and Water Board. The Board of Directors is expected to name a permanent Executive Director in July.
