Brees is Back!

Future hall of fame quarterback Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints agreed to terms two year $50 million dollar contract, that includes $27 million dollars in guaranteed money.

The contract is written as a two year contract, but essentially it's a one year deal.  It allows the Saints to get out after one season.

The contract is team friendly with an opt out in year two from the Saints if they choose, essentially making this a one year contract.  Next offseason the Saints will have to decide if they want to pick up that option.

The Saints and Brees were motivated to get a deal done.  Both sides said all off season that they were confident a deal would come to fruition rather easily.

Brees joined the Saints as a free agent in 2006, and won the franchise's first ever Lombardi Trophy in 2010 with a Super Bowl XLIV win over the Indianapolis Colts.

This is a huge exhale for Saints fans and the Who Dat Nation that had concerns over whether a deal would get done in time before free agency starts on March 14th.

"Now the Saints can focus on continuing to build their roster and remain legitimate Super Bowl contenders this season.  He's the greatest player in Saints history, and we get to watch him retire here in New Orleans," said the Cajun Cannon Bobby Hebert. "Brees is back! Back with the Saints and back for another Super Bowl title. "

Brees tweeted this morning...

On Instagram he was focussed on his family...

Great spending the morning with my kids in chapel today! Best way to start the day :-)

If you question Drew Brees' selfless team first attitude try this on, and tell me how it fits.  Two other teams were willing to offer Drew Brees  a two year deal worth $60 Million dollars, but Brees passed on that for the opportunity to win a championship with the Saints forgoein $10 million dollars.  I think that says a lot as to what is important to Brees at this point in his career.
