The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested and fired one of their deputies after he allegedly wrecked his patrol car while driving intoxicated early this morning. Commander Lonny Cavalier says authorities responded to calls of a vehicle in a ditch and it turned out to be 22-year-old Deputy Joseph Edward Repp of Pierre Part.

“At the time there was no one at the scene. Repp was found a short time later and apprehended. He was placed under arrest for DWI, charged also with hit and run and careless operation.”

Cavalier says Repp blew a .09 when given a breath test. He says it’s extremely disappointing to have one of your own arrested for a situation like this.

“Deputies know the rules, they’re provided the rules, they’re sent through an extensive academy. The sheriff takes it very, very seriously and this is not a tolerable offense. There is zero tolerance.”

Cavalier says the accident occurred near Repp’s home in Pierre Part when he ran crashed his patrol car.
“He left his home probably three and a half miles from where the accident occurred in Pierre Part and was near the area of the Gator Corner Superstore near Hwy 70 and 69 and he just ran into a ditch.”
