Arrest in Lockport shooting that killed man inside trailer home

A 17-year-old is under arrest in a shooting in Lockport that killed a 19-year-old man.

"Jyairus Folse, 17, of Lockport was charged with Second Degree Murder in the shooting death of 19-year-old Alton Adams of Bayou Blue," the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office said Monday evening. "Folse is also charged with six counts of attempted murder – one count for each person inside the residence during the shooting."

Around 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, deputies responded to a call of a shooting in the 100 block of East Fontinelle Street in Lockport. Deputies arrived and found Adams was inside his mother’s residence when the shooting occurred.  One of the rounds penetrated the residence and struck Adams.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots.

"Overnight and during the day on Monday, February 11, detectives interviewed witnesses and neighbors," said the sheriff's office. "Through investigation, Folse was developed as a suspect, and detectives obtained warrants for his arrest."

The sheriff's office says the motive for the shooting is not known at this time.
