Up against NRA, gun control advocates still voice optimism

WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Rifle Association went all-out to put Donald Trump in the White House and the Republicans who control Congress already are taking steps to ease gun regulations.

But groups that want to restrict gun sales say they are undeterred in the face of daunting election results.

As the NRA's annual convention unfolds in Atlanta this weekend, gun-control groups are sending a clear message that the NRA's agenda will not go unchallenged.

Both sides are gearing up for a fight over proposed national legislation that would make any state's concealed-carry permits valid everywhere else. Opponents say that would effectively turn the weakest gun standards in the nation into the law of the land.
