2018 is shaping up to be a marquee year for Hollywood South.

New Orleans will be seeing lots of lights, cameras and action in the coming months.

There are roughly a dozen projects in various states of production in just the first quarter of the year.

"Certainly the first half of 2018, first quarter for sure, is going to be one of the busiest in recent years," says Chris Stelly, Executive Director of Louisiana Entertainment, a division of Louisiana Economic Development.

"It's certainly going to be a very busy first quarter of 2018, says Stelly. "Roughly 12 projects in various states of production."

New Orleans remains the capital of Hollywood South. But Stelly says the city shares the wealth with the surrounding area.

"The bulk of production is centered in New Orleans. But, even though they might base in one city, they certainly shoot throughout the region."

Tom Hanks' World War II drama “Greyhound” will be filming aboard the USS Kidd and at other Baton Rouge locations starting in March.

The next big project reportedly coming to New Orleans is a Marvel superhero movie starring Channing Tatum as the Cajun-born "X-men" character, said to begin in March. The film's original filing with the state film office indicated at the time that it was operating with a $155 million budget. Of that, $112 million was earmarked for in-state spending, including $28.1 million for Louisiana payroll.

At least five TV shows will be shooting here in 2018, and their longer shooting schedules bring in plenty of money. The third season of "Preacher" has an estimated budget of $70 million, with $50 million of that being spent in Louisiana...$19 million of that earmarked for in-state payroll.

Other TV shows that'll be on the streets of New Orleans include The First, Claws, Queen Sugar and NCIS New Orleans.

"NCIS is going to be filming through the end of April. They're already in season 4 and there's really no end in sight for that particular project. And I think they're're really pleased with the numbers that they're pulling, from and audience standpoint. It's one of the more mature shows out there that we have," Stelly says.
