Police say an Algiers was beaten by a burglar who broke into his home Sunday morning.

It happened before 1 a.m. in the 2100 block of Cobblestone Lane in Algiers according to the NOPD.

Police say two thieves knocked on the door of the victims' home. When he opened it, they forced their way inside, assaulting the man with a gun.

One of the thieves took a wallet from a second individual before the pair fled the house.

The victim who was beaten was taken to a hospital via NOEMS.

Authorities originally said somebody had been shot in the chest during the incident, but later released a summary of the incident showing that the victim was struck by the gun itself.

NOPD officials first responded to the call as a shooting, but later said they were investigating the incident as a burglary.

Police have given few details about the incident, and have not given a description of either suspect.

The victim's condition was not released Sunday morning. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
