A captain in the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office has shot himself, The New Orleans Advocate reports. Capt. Andre Dominick, who was the medical director of the St. Bernard Parish, is one three people accused of violating the civil rights of an inmate who died in custody.

The federal trial has been placed on hold as Dominick is in the hospital. Officials have not released any other details of the shooting, including Dominick's condition.

Dominick, Deputy Debra Becnel, and Deputy Lisa Vaccarella are charged in connection with the 2014 death of Nimali Henry. Prosecutors say the deputies ignored Henry as she collapsed in a jail bathroom and died two days later from a blood clot.
