Accused serial rapist indicted for 5 kidnappings, rapes in New Orleans

Also suspected of three kidnappings and rapes in Kansas City

A man who authorities describe as a serial rapist, charged with five attacks in New Orleans and three in Kansas City, Missouri, has been indicted.

35-year-old Daniel Meridy has been charged with five counts of aggravated/first-degree rape and five counts of aggravated kidnapping. Each of the 10 counts is punishable by a mandatory life sentence.

Meridy is suspected in five kidnapping and rape cases in New Orleans between June 2015 and October 2018 in the Treme and Central City. DNA evidence linked him to five New Orleans rape cases and three more rape cases in Kansas City, Mo, according to the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office.

In the New Orleans cases, all five victims were abducted at gunpoint or knifepoint and taken to secluded locations where they were raped.

Meridy has not yet been charged by Kansas City Authorities.
