The 'American Idol' folks are in New Orleans today, holding open auditions for the TV show.

Representatives of the ABC series will be at the Morial Convention Center until 6 o'clock this evening, and they say New Orleans is a favorite stop for them.

"We love New Orleans," says Patrick Lynn, Senior Supervising Producer for 'American Idol'. "The talent there is always good, the city is amazing, and, of course, there's Cafe du Monde."

He says they always find special talent in the city, with a sound they find nowhere else.

"It's hard to say, but there's always sort of like a really good R&B hybrid, with a little jazz going on with it. We always seem to find people like that."

And, he says they tend to find people and talent unlike what they find in other cities.

"New Orleans is unique in that you get the type of musician that is a little more experienced, a little bit different. It's not country, it's not straight R&B...It's like, there's always a little bit of jazz sprinkled in there, which I always think is super cool."

Lynn says there's no limit on the number of contestants they may choose in New Orleans to make a an appearance on the TV show.

"We'll take as many as we can get," Lynn says. "Come in and try out. I tell this to people all the time...'What have you got to lose?'".

If you can't make it to the Convention Center today, you can submit an online audition at americanidol.com
