It is going to be a record for Independence holiday travel.  According to AAA the numbers will be way up for people traveling 50 miles or more away from home this Independence Day holiday.

Don Redman says AAA has been tracking the 4th of July holiday travel for 18 years and this is the largest number yet.
"Almost 47 million Americans will be traveling for the Independence holiday," Redman said.

And today will be the busiest day to be on the road.
"Expect the roads to really be packed," he said.  "A lot of  people will be heading out, in addition to people just getting off work, so that late afternoon, we're expecting to see a serious traffic jam."

That's because many will hit the road by car.  The vast majority of travelers, 39.7 million, will hit the road in their automobiles heading to the beaches.  Redman says this time of year, many folks head to Orlando to spend a long 4th of July holiday at the amusement parks and water parks.
