50/50 chance we get third named storm before June 1

Another tropical disturbance in the Atlantic has a chance of becoming Tropical Storm Cristobal in the next few days. The National Hurricane Center gives it a 50 percent chance of developing into a depression or named storm.

If it happens before Monday, it would be the third tropical cyclone to form before the "official" state of the 2020 hurricane season.

The broad area of low pressure in the central-northern Atlantic, several hundred miles east-southeast of Bermuda.

"This disturbance is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms and gusty winds," according to the hurricane center. "Additional development of this 
system is possible, and a subtropical depression could form tonight or on Saturday as it moves generally northward."
