A contractor broke a water main and it will take hours to make repairs, St .John the Baptist Parish officials told The New Orleans Advocate.

That means shutting off service to around 17,000 customers in the LaPlace area around 10:00 p.m., with no running water for up to eight hours.

Officials say contract worker broke a large main near LA 673 and LA 628.

Once the water pressure can be restores, residents who lost service will be under a boil advisory until health officials can confirm the water is safe to consume.
