A 17-year-old coronavirus patient from New Orleans has died from COVID-19, Louisiana health officials said Thursday.

The information from the Louisiana Department of Health did not mention if the teen had any other medical conditions that would have increased risk of death.

The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office indentified the teen as Jaquan Anderson.  He was a 17-year-old black male.  The cause of death and manner of death "remain under investigation."

A family member told WWL First News that Anderson had a heart condition.

While the elderly are among the most at-risk of dying from the disease, deaths have occurred across a broad range of ages.

In Louisiana, the disease has also claimed three people in their 30s, seven in their 40s, 15 in their 50s, eight in their 60s, and 49 people age 70 or above.
