After dropping their proposal for an 18-game profootball season, NFL owners are back with a new idea:  A 17 game season doing away with all or part of the preseason.

The proposal came as collective bargaining talks have yet to get underway.

Owners were briefed on the new proposal at their meeting in Houston this week, according to The Athletic.

Expanding the season by a week would mean doing away with one-to-two games of the preseason.

Ending the preseason is something owners are in favor of since they view preseason as a money loser and would like to regain lost revenue from eliminating those games.

The NFL Players Association has yet to comment on the new 17-game season proposal.

The talks have concluded for the year and are expected to pick up in early 2020.  The current collective bargaining agreement expires after the completion of the 2020 season.
