Grandmother kidnaps granddaughter at gunpoint

The search for a 12-year-old girl taken at gunpoint from Ochsner hospital on Jefferson Hwy. has ended with the girl safe and her suspected abductor in jail.

"Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports the arrest of Evelyn Miller, 66, on charges related to the kidnapping of her granddaughter yesterday evening from Ochsner Hospital," said Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Capt. Jason Rivarde. "Just before 5:00 pm, Miller was arrested by the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office at a hotel in Bogalusa.  Adreana Miller was found during the arrest, and was unharmed. Evelyn Miller will be extradited to Jefferson Parish."

The sheriff's office says Miller walked into Ochsner Old Jefferson Medical Center and demanded the release of her granddaughter Friday evening.

She reportedly pointed gun at a security guard and other staffers at the hospital and demanded the child.  Authorities did not mention a motive.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.
